Perfect Peace

Peace of mind is one of those priceless intangibles. Peace of mind promotes good health, while continuing stress harms both body and mind in many ways. In older folks, stress often triggers heart attacks and strokes. How can we find and keep peace in our minds and hearts?
Surely, our greatest need is to be at peace with God. "Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 5:1 KJV). When a person receives Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (Acts 2:38; Romans 10:9-10), the Holy Spirit enters his (her) body (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). As he (she) continues to follow Christ, the fruit of the Holy Spirit in that person grows and ripens. The fruit of the Spirit includes love, joy, and peace (Galatians 5:22-23). Don't let worry rob you of peace. Instead, ask your Father in heaven for what you need, thanking Him for His answer. Trust the God who is love (1 John 4:8, 16), and He will give you His amazing peace in that situation (Proverbs 3:5-6; Philippians 4:6-7). When the Lord's answer comes, it may not be the answer you wanted. Eventually, though, followers of Christ find "that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28 KJV). We love God by obeying His commandments (John 14:21-23). God commands us to forgive everyone who has wronged us. Unforgiveness will rob you of peace, and God will not forgive your sins (Matthew 6:12, 14-15; 18:21-35). We must walk in faith that works by love and overcome evil with good (Galatians 5:6; Romans 12:21).
In this busy, complex, and dangerous world that we live in, few persons enjoy moments of divine peace; but it is possible. Find a quiet place where you can be alone with your Lord. Take your Bible. "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You" (Isaiah 26:3 NKJV).
